Raccoons and Romance: A Review of Wild Card by Elsie Silver
“Yes. Because raccoons are the official animal of romance. Nothing says I’m into you like sharing rabies over a bowl of Doritos.”
I don’t even know where to start on this review! I have DEVOURED the last two books in this series and left NO CRUMBS. I’m obsessed. I was trying to figure out how I would order the books in this series from my favorite to least favorite and I just don’t even know because Wild Side and Wild Card took me by complete surprise, but I think about Wild Love constantly! Anyways, I digress onto the review!
I’ll start off by saying “oooookay daddy Bash!”. I had no idea what to expect going into this book, I’ve never really loved books with the age gap trope, and I had no real tie to Bash or Gwen from the other series. I was blown away by the story and the characters. I loved Bash from the beginning, and also Elsie Silver I don’t know where you pick up the MMC names but they have no right to be this attractive… Sebastian Rousseau… are you KIDDING?!
The Plot
Sebastian Rousseau, aka Bash, meets Gwen while stuck in an airport over night where they have an immediate connection and promise to meet up again later after taking her number. Missed connections follow them after this meet cute, and Gwen ends up unknowingly dating Bash’s son. Gwen ends up in Rose Hill as a yoga instructor and finds herself living with Bash while there. The story takes us through Bash’s life as a fire pilot, and Gwen’s life as a yoga instructor and both of their trial and tribulations in life playing into their relationship.

The Characters
I am a sucker for a grumpy x sunshine trope, and Bash and Gwen delivered here. I loved that Gwen didn’t take any crap from Bash though when he was being grumpy and trying to push her away. I was obsessed with Bash’s broody character, but loved that he had so much depth to him. Gwen girly, I loved how much confidence she had in herself and how she was just so full of light and brought that light with her to the people that she met. And we can’t forget Clyde. That old man had me in tears, laughing and sentimental quite a few times. I loved this found family so much!
The Meet Cute
The meet cute…. the serendipity of them getting stuck overnight in an airport together! I loved that Bash pulled no punches, he didn’t try to play it cool or play hard to get, he let it be known that he liked her and wanted to find a way to meet up again – although missed connections were had there (as you will read).
The Drama
I was so curious how the “ex-boyfriends dad” was going to be brought into this, and it was done in such a good way without making it seem super cringy, but still giving it that drama that would follow if you found out your dad was dating your ex girlfriend. I was so annoyed by Bash’s son throughout this book, but was glad he seemed to have some character growth at the end. The FIRE, I was on edge during those chapters, and my heart hurt for Bash and the weight that he carried on himself. I loved that he had Gwen there to lift him back up, and that she knew exactly what to do in that moment.
The Review
I rated this book 5/5 stars. I LOVED it. The characters, the plot, the drama… the raccoons. I was here for alllll of it! I highly recommend this book. Make sure to get the bonus Clyde chapter after you finish this book, it was just such a nice wrap up of the story with his last point of view.
If you read this book let me know in the comments what you thought of it!
XOXO, Kkeev
